MARQUESS AND ASSOCIATES

I worked along side the ME, EE, Structural, and drafting teams during my time at Marquess. I started researching building codes and analyzing a system for compliance with an ASHRAE standard. Later I would run lumen calculations for minimum foot-candle levels. A large portion of my time was spent drafting in AutoCAD and learning about HVAC, lighting, power, fire-protection, and general building design. As a complement to the drafting, I would also go on site visits, helping interface with clients. I ended my experience starting the push to get the office to switch from AutoCAD to Revit, a Building Information Model (BIM) that would automate a lot of the office's processes.

ASHRAE STANDARD 55 COMPLIANCE DOCUMENTATION

This document verifies that the HVAC system installed will be comfortable to at least 90% of occupants throughout the year. Building insulation and efficiency, system performance, occupant clothing and metabolic rate, and seasonal temperature and weather data are all considered in approval. LIGHTING CALCULATIONS

To verify that rooms meet minimum foot-candle requirements, I ran calculations in Visual Lighting 2012, a lighting design software. This involved modeling room with material characteristics and adding light source photometrics. Click image to download pdf

DRAFTING

I started by editing simple redlines, but soon learned to act with some autonomy. Given design requirements, I was able to start to do layouts of electrical systems myself. HVAC and plumbing required some more information than lighting/power designs, so I would only work on redlines for those. Here is a selected drawing for an apartment complex where I laid out a power plan. Click the image to download a pdf of the drawing
